INSTRUCTIONS:
YOU ARE THE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER FOR A BUSY AIRPORT IN THE GREATER
METROPOLITAN PODUNK AREA.
YOUR AIR SCREEN IS CENTERED AROUND YOUR TWO RUNWAYS, LABELLED 1 AND 2.
AS AIR TRAFFIC ENTERS YOUR AIR SCREEN YOU MUST ROUTE IT TO THE ASSIGNED EXIT
POINT (E1-E8) OR RUNWAY (R1-R2).
TO THE RIGHT OF THE AIR SCREEN IS THE DATA DISPLAY, GIVING THE LOCATION
(RELATIVE TO CENTER OF SCREEN), ALTITUDE (1-6), HEADING (1-8) AND FUEL (IN
TIME REMAINING UNITS) FOR EACH TARGET TRACKED.

THE EXIT POINTS ARE LABELLED IN THE SAME WAY FOR CONVENIENCE. AN AIRCRAFT
MUST HAVE AN ALTITUDE >=4 WHEN IT REACHES ITS EXIT POINT.
TARGETS:
THE RADAR TARGETS ARE GIVEN ALPHABETIC LABELS A-Z AS NECESSARY FOR UNIQUE
IDENTIFICATION. A TARGET IS DISPLAYED ON THE AIR SCREEN IN THE FOLLOWING
FORMAT:

C IS THE COMMAND PENDING FOR THIS TARGET:
":" MEANS NO COMMAND IS PENDING
"L" MEANS TARGET IS CLEARED TO LAND
"+" MEANS TARGET IS TURNING COUNTERCLOCKWISE
"-" MEANS TARGET IS TURNING CLOCKWISE
"U" MEANS TARGET IS ASCENDING IN ALTITUDE
"D" MEANS TARGET IS DESCENDING
"C" MEANS TARGET IS CIRCLING IN A HOLDING PATTERN
A IS THE ALTITUDE (1-6)
XY IS THE EXIT POINT (E1-E8) OR THE ASSIGNED RUNWAY (R1-R2)
COMMANDS:
ISSUE COMMANDS TO THE AIRCRAFT USING THE KEYBOARD. AFTER TYPING THE COMMAND,
HIT THE <ENTER> KEY TO TRANSMIT IT TO THE AIRCRAFT.
THE COMMANDS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
X.N TARGET X ASCEND/DESCEND TO ALTITUDE N (N=1..6)
X+H TARGET X TURN COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO HEADING H (H=1..8)
X-H TARGET X TURN CLOCKWISE TO HEADING H
NOTE: YOU CAN TYPE "_" FOR "-", AND "=" FOR "+"
XL TARGET X CLEARED TO LAND (THE TARGET MUST BE AT ALTITUDE 1
TO BE CLEARED; IT THEN LANDS ON ITS OWN GUIDANCE)
XT TARGET X CLEARED TO TAKE OFF (THE TARGET MUST BE ON A
RUNWAY; IT TAKES OFF ON ITS OWN GUIDANCE)
XC TARGET X CIRCLE AT PRESENT ALTITUDE
<- <BACKSPACE KEY> ERASE THE COMMAND AND START OVER
EMERGENCY LANDING:
IF AN AIRCRAFT ASSIGNED TO AN EXIT POINT HAS <=100 UNITS OF FUEL REMAINING,
YOU MAY ELECT TO CLEAR IT FOR LANDING INSTEAD.
SCORING:
A GAME IS 100 AIRCRAFT. YOU GET ONE POINT FOR EACH AIRCRAFT THAT MAKES ITS
EXIT POINT OR LANDING, HENCE THE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE SCORE IS 100.
FUNCTION KEYS:
THE FUNCTION KEYS CONTROL THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS. NOTE THAT FOR 'TOGGLE'
SWITCHES, THE FUNCTION KEY LEGEND ALWAYS DISPLAYS THE MODE THAT WILL BE
ENTERED BY PRESSING THE KEY, WHICH IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE MODE IN EFFECT AT
THE TIME.

F1 SOUND EFFECTS ON/OFF TOGGLE.
F2 TOGGLE DEMO MODE. IN DEMO MODE, THE PROGRAM DEMONSTRATES
ITSELF. *WARNING* PRESSING THIS KEY ZEROES THE SCORE!
F5 DISPLAY THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
F5 QUIT THE PROGRAM.
F10 (COLOR MONITORS ONLY) CHANGE THE SCREEN BORDER COLOR.
CLOCK PITCH: THE UP ARROW KEY (ON THE NUMERIC KEY PAD) INCREASES, AND THE
DOWN ARROW KEY DECREASES THE PITCH OF THE CLOCK.
STARTUP SHOW: TO BYPASS THE STARTUP SHOW, HIT THE ENTER KEY TWICE INSTEAD
OF ONCE WHEN RUNNING THE PROGRAM FROM DOS.
